Miscellaneous biographical items, 1916-1917 and 1943, concerning Addison G. Brenizer, a Charlotte, N.C., businessman; the diary, 1859-1862, of Juliana Paisley Gilmer, Brenizer's mother-in-law, and a scrapbook compiled by Gilmer, 1858-1870. Juliana Gilmer was the wife of John Adams Gilmer of Greensboro, N.C., U.S. representative (American Party), 1857- 1861, and later a Confederate congressman. Her diary describes Presbyterian church matters; family events, such as the death of her mother-in-law, Anna Gilmer; and trips to Washington, D.C., and Kittrells Springs, N.C. Her scrapbook contains clippings of poems and items on Confederate matters, the death of children, and the sorrows of women. It includes a manuscript record of subscribers to build an Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, 1860.

Addison Gorgas Brenizer (b. 1839) of Charlotte, N.C., was a businessman and served in the Confederate army. His mother-in-law was Juliana Paisley Gilmer, wife of John Adams Gilmer of Greensboro, N.C., lawyer; legislator; Whig candidate for governor of North Carolina, 1856; United States congressman, 1857-1861; Confederate congressman, 1864; and delegate to the Union National Convention of Conservatives in Philadelphia, Pa., 1866.
